Why You Need Videography on Your Wedding Day
When it comes to your wedding day, there are a LOT of things to keep in mind. Guest count, seating arrangements, music, food, colors, etc. For most people, photography is at the top of the list for capturing the day. While photos are definitely important, I’m a strong believer that you should also consider adding video to your day. Gone are the days of single camera, 3 hour videos that are shot from the back of the reception hall. Modern videographers are so talented and can make your day feel so dynamic! Here are some of my top reasons why you should consider adding wedding video to your day.
The biggest reason I always recommend adding video to your day is because of the audio. Photos can’t replay the sound of your vows. They can’t let you re-listen to the music playing as you walked down the aisle. You can’t hear the sounds of your family laughing during the reception. Your sister toasting to you and your spouse. These precious moments are so valuable and go by so fast. Having video allows you to relive these moments and hear these beautiful words and sounds during such a special day in your life.
Another reason I love video is because you get to see full motions as opposed to a still. Rather than seeing part of a hug, you can see the full thing. You can watch a dress twirl during dancing. The belly laugh from your uncle. The tear streaming down your face during the ceremony. All of these moments can be seen in their entirety as opposed to just a still. The photos are beautiful of course, but you can’t compare getting to relive these once in a lifetime moments.
One of my favorite tips I’ve heard about remembering your wedding day is to remember the 5 senses. Take a moment to remember the way things feel, smell, sound, look, and taste. Having a video helps make all of these things feel more tangible. Seeing the food on the table, the sounds of your friends talking, and the look of the linens bring all of those senses back. A photo can only do so much, but a video brings almost all of these senses together. Something about watching the motions and the sounds together will spark your memory even more than a photo can!
It’s very rare that you will have a moment with all of your family and friends in one room, celebrating. Pictures are great, but having video of your favorite people talking, laughing, smiling, and crying is priceless. These memories are once in a lifetime- and it’s easier to remember to take photos than it is to record these moments. One day when these people are no longer with you, having a video of their motions and voice will be invaluable. I love looking back on videos from my childhood or family events and remembering the things that were unique to my loved ones that are no longer with me.
Your love story is special, and a wedding day is one of the most pinnacle moments in your relationship. Having a wedding video is more than just a recording of some speeches and a ceremony. Like I mentioned, modern video feels more cinematic and dynamic than ever before. The little in between moments can be captured with such poise and grace. Reliving your day through a short film as opposed to a recording can really give you a better sense of appreciation for the day, and lets you be the outside viewer and catch moments you may have missed on the day of.
I’m sure you’ve noticed a theme in this post- but video really does capture the day in a more encompassing way than photos. These little moments throughout the day may not be fully captured in a photo. A video can catch a conversation, a wink, or a laugh. Video might notice a twirl or a dip on the dance floor that happened in between shots. The little pockets of magic in between still moments, if you will. Your wedding day will go by in a flash, and a video will give you a peek into the missed moments throughout the day that may have passed by.
Video won’t replace photos, but they definitely compliment to give you a full view of your special day. If you’re even a little sentimental, a video will be a huge addition to your day. The cake will be eaten, the flowers will die, and the champagne will fizz out- but the memories of the day can last forever. If you have any questions about video, reach out to Meraki Photo Co today!
